The best things to do in 48 hours in Boston, Massachusetts
It’s been almost a week since we’ve been home from Boston, and man do we miss it! I visited once when I was younger, but my husband had never been. We like the cold weather too, so we thought it would be the perfect city to venture together. It was so so charming. We are SO happy we visited! We flew in Thursday afternoon and out Sunday morning early, and felt like it was a great amount of time. We could have done one more day, but with the babies at home we were ready to get back. I looked at a bunch of blog posts via Pinterest to get my hands on what to do and where to eat and was really happy with the places we went too! It’s good to note that we visited the second weekend of November. We had great weather, but our last day it was 26 degrees, so if you’re looking for a city to walk around, this is something to note!
Where to Stay in Boston
I love love love a good boutique hotel, and researched a few places and decided upon The Whitney Hotel Boston. It looked amazing from the website, and it was in Beacon Hill, which I knew from my research was a very desirable location. This hotel was everything we wanted and more. The Whitney has 65 rooms in this gorgeous brick building, very close to the water and the bike path! From the glass of champagne that welcomes you when you arrive, to the ultra chic dark blue and grey decor, to the bicycles you can take to explore the city, it was everything we had hoped it would be. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and you almost felt as if you were home with all the special touches your home doesn’t have, like bottles of water delivered to your nightstands and chocolates before bed. Our room overlooked the courtyard where I could see the yellow and orange leaves falling, which is a big deal since we don’t have that here in Texas. We have two seasons-Summer and Spring!
Where to eat in Boston
Tatte Cafe
-most delicious brunch coffee and pastries, and Instagram worthy
Row 34
-similar to a place we would love in Houston. Loved the scene, great oyster selection. I had the stuffed flounder which was amazing, and Matthew had a roasted chicken on top of cheese grits.
Any Italian Restaurant in the Northend
We had drinks at one place and just watched the pizza and the pasta come out with drooling lips. It’s like Boston’s own little Italy.
Neptune Oyster
-ok everyone told us to eat here and get a lobster roll so we did. But, we waited 2.5 hours! Plan ahead, I suggest getting there at 11am, before they open at 11:30am. If you do have to wait, they let you leave so you can explore around and get drinks like we did. It’s very close to Paul Revere’s home, so there is alot to see!
Citrus & Salt
-we are Tex-Mex snobs over here, but we LOVED this place. Not Tex-Mex, just Mex, but so yummy. Get the sweet potatoes!
The best things to do in Boston:
Stop by Fenway Park
This was super fun to just see in person, and if you travel with your husband or boyfriend, they will love it. There is a bar, Bleacher Bar that you can actually sit in and it back right up to the field! We grabbed a drink and a sandwich for the view and it was so fun!
Duck Boat Tour
I had read on another blog post that this was a very touristy thing to do, and I’m so glad we did it. You take a bus/boat around the city and into the water for about 1.5 hours. The tour guide was amazing and he talks about Boston the whole time and gives you a great insight into the city. Plus, it was cold when we went so this was a great way to see the city while warm!
The Freedom Trail
This is a must-do because of all the history in Boston. It’s 2.5 miles and you could walk it and stop at all the historic landmarks, but we chose to ride our bikes and do it this way to make it a little faster. You can stop whenever you want or keep going. The trail starts in Boston Commons and you can get maps there as well. Or here is a great link too. Make sure you see Paul Revere’s house, it’s such a staple and in a great part of town. We biked about 3/4 of the trail and it took about an hour and a half because we stopped a few times too.
Boston Public Library
This may have been one of our favorite places, especially if you are into architecture and photography! This place is massive and SO gorgeous! Spend some time just walking from room to room and then you can have tea in the restaurant, or just grab a glass of champagne!
Boston Public Market
We rode by this a few times but didn’t stop, but the locals love this place! It’s a huge market/farmer’s market with only local foods and vendors. We should have eaten her but just didn’t have the time! You’ll see it if you take the The Freedom Trail route.
Top of the Hub
If you go into the Prudential Center and find the “top of the hub”, it’s a restaurant on the 52nd floor and has this incredible view of Boston and the Back Bay. Have a drink for sure, but the food was good too! Expect to wait a little bit.
Shopping
If you have time leftover walking down Newberry Street and Copley Square are lots of good shopping, the expensive kind! Our street, Charles St had a bunch of cute boutiques we went in and bought some Christmas gifts for the kids. Walking about the city just in general is so so charming and was our favorite. It’s very walkable unless it’s freezing. (It was 26 degrees our last day so brrr).
