I love love love love fall so much I start picking out my decorations in September. Because it’s hot here I have to wait until October to put real pumpkins outside because they will rot in the sun in a few weeks. But, that doesn’t stop me from doing my interior! I use a lot of the same glass pumpkins from year to year because I like a “less is more” and a more neutral approach to my interiors so that is always quick and easy to do. This year, I wanted to do new planters for my front door and decorate with fall colored mums, surrounded my pumpkins. Here is what I did for this simple look that took me less than 30 minutes to do.
what you need
- two concrete planters-I scored these big time from Target because I didn’t want to spend a lot, but look at Home Depot too! Mine are 16″ planters.
- mums-any garden center, but don’t wait too long by October 1st I was having trouble finding ones that were blooming. AND, you want like half blooming! My mums are 3 gallon.
- pumpkins/gourds
- smaller pots that can fit inside
- square platter/drain-they were at my garden center
how to
Turn over the smaller pots and put inside your larger planters to make height for your mums. This will save on soil, and will allow your mum to appear to be “growing out” of the planter. I just kept my mums in their containers. (By the time you read this I should have posted a video here on my instagram REELS). I also have this video here too! Then I placed my square drain platter on top of the pot. Then place your mum on top of that. Easy! I placed pumpkins around the planters as I wanted, and my wheel barrow was something from Hobby Lobby the kids love, and I still see it there.
