As I write this I’m headed out to Washington to do a little cross-country skiing and snowshoeing! It’s been a few years since I’ve skied but I used to go every year! That being said I do mostly know what to pack for the cold weather, and now there are so many fashionable, affordable choices! I used to just go to a sports store and buy everything and it was plain black and boring and expensive! So many fun options now that are under $100! I’ll be updating this post as I get some fun snow pictures, but I know many people are planning ski trips for Spring Break and have been getting some questions about gear!
Snow Gear
Snow gear and ski gear are similar but could still be different. Snow gear could be you’re out and about the town where there is snow on the ground and you’ll walk in it, but you’re not actually doing a sport in it. Or, you’re going sledding or on a sleigh ride…You still need to be warm but you could get away wearing a sweater dress with leggings, or skinny jeans with thick socks over it and a biker boot, cute sweater and chunky coat. An oversized sweater works great here because you can layer under and still wear a base layer (see below). When we went snowshoeing I still wore ski pants, my base layers, and a turtleneck sweater and a puffer jacket.
Ski Gear
Actual ski gear needs to be very warm and waterproof. You can rent helmets, goggles and boots but you will need everything else. Start with the first layer: 1) a thermal/base layer 2) a comfortable sweater 3) ski bibs or pants 4) ski pants 5) thick socks 6) waterproof boots to get you to the ski shop to rent ski boots. Remember everything is pretty slim fitting, everything will need to fit under a ski bib and coat. No chunky tunic sweaters! This is the look I was going for and tweaked a little!
Headed to Dinner with snow on the ground gear
You want to be warm, but you’re heading inside quickly. You could wear a sweater dress belted over leggings, shorts or a skirt with tights under and a big coat over the entire outfit. You still want to wear a boot but could do a bootie or snakeskin print, with cozy socks under. This is where you can pull out the faux fur jacket as well! It’s important to note on my trip to Washington it was 38 degrees.
Awesome post! Keep up the great work! 🙂
