A week in the Texas Hill Country-Wimberly, TX and the surrounding areas

Every summer my family rents the same home in Wimberly, TX and we all visit the charming town for a few days. This year, because of COVID we were so bored and extended it to a week! Our home is perfect for the kids, large space with multiple bedrooms, a garage apartment for my parents, large backyard and our yard has access to the river which is shallow for the kids but also can have some swimming. A little further down it’s a little deeper, but I love the shallow water for safety, and our kids love to throw rocks and just sit and play with buckets and shovels. The guys fish a lot in the water too! The main reason we love the Texas Hill Country is for relaxation, but everyone wants to be able to get out some and of course we love restaurants and wineries. With being here almost a week this time we are venturing out a little from Wimberly and visiting a few of our favorite neighboring cities. It’s important to note I’ve been here with my family three times, once with just Matthew and once on a bachelorette party, so it’s great whether you have children or not!  I’ll also list our favorite things to do in the town of Wimberly. We also love this vacation spot because it’s only 2 hours and 40 minutes from our house including a stop at BUC-CEES!wimberly texas triptexas hill country travel guide wimberly texas things to do

What to do in Wimberly, TX

  1. Ziplining-I’ve done this years ago as a girls trip and it was so fun! I would love to do it again with my husband and we just haven’t. Would be so fun for a group, I think it took about half the day and was just a great experience!
  2. Blue Hole Regional Park-this is such a pretty place! Super close to the town of Wimberly and we had never been before. You can swim there, but must make reservations before and I just wanted to visit. The water is freezing! They have hiking and biking trails easy for the kids, a playground that’s shady, and soccer fields, volleyball courts and more.blue hole regional park blue hole regional park hiking and bike trails
  3. Jacob’s Well-make reservations to go swimming in the 30 ft deep water that flows through caves. Looks amazing, sounds scary to me! There are also a few trails to walk that we are definitely going to try out. The map of the trails is here.
  4. Old Baldy-220 steps to the view. Easily done with two kids under 5 years. Took about 10 minutes to get to the top and the view is gorge!things to do in wimberly texas
  5. Electric Bike Rentals throughout all the above parks. I wanted to do this and didn’t get too, but next time.
  6. Trattoria Lisina-our favorite KID FRIENDLY Italian restaurant. Make reservations, go early and tire your kids out on their HUGE playground! Even better-go next door to the Duchman winery and get a bottle of wine and drink that while your children play on the play ground!
  7. Creekhouse-Brand new restaurant in town that looked awesome, we couldn’t get in because it had JUST opened, but had a turf outside area, live music etc.
  8. Creekside BBQ-amazing food, large outside area as well. duchman family winery
  9. Duchman Family Winery-right next to Trattoria Lisina restaurant. We love to go here.tratttoria lisina in wimberly texas trattoria lisina italian restaurant wimberly tx family vacation guide to hill country
  10. The Leaning Pear-another one of our favorite modern-ish restaurants with a cool outdoor space for the kids to walk around.
  11. Community Pizza & Beer Garden-best neapolitan pizza!
  12. The Shady Llama-cutest outdoor bar that kid friendly and very large. They have a fenced play area for the kids, a great view and actual llamas and donkeys that roam the 35 acres! If the animals come up, you can get food to feed them! My kids went nuts!shady llama bar wimberly shady llama bar wimberly
  13. The actual town-you have to walk through at least once or twice. Cute shops, ice cream places, I’ve even gotten my nails done at a salon there.wimberly texas family vacation
